The only school district in Russell County had rising enrollment in the 2022-23 school year, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.

There were 3,180 students in Russell County School District, 1.8% higher than the year before.

Enrollment in Russell County was steady with the state's trend of increasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.2% of them were boys, and 47.8% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 82.8% of Russell County School District's total enrollment.

Russell County School District has a main office in Jamestown and is the only school district within Russell County.

Despite escaping some of the pandemic's educational disruptions, Kentucky's achievement gaps have remained an issue since 2019. In the eighth-grade reading assessments, for example, Hispanic students scored eight points lower than their white peers, and the gap reached 15 points in math. Black students fared even worse, falling more than 20 points behind and facing a failure rate nearly double that of their white counterparts.
