Men's Swimming Close Naia National Championships In Sixth

The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team concluded its 2022-23 season on Saturday at the Columbus Aquatics Center in the final leg of competition at the NAIA National Championships. When the water settled, the Blue Raiders found themselves matched with their final finish from a season ago, ending in sixth place with a team score of 228 points.

Fabio Martin headlined a trio of All-American recipients for the locals on the day with a school-record-breaking performance of 15:51.46 in the 1,650-yard freestyle, earning him fourth place and his third individual All-American accolade of the week.

Then, in the 200-yard backstroke, Will Thilwind added to his event success with an eighth-place effort of 1:51.37.

The local's final All-American distinction of the week came in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the foursome of Tyler King, Jose Angel Rivas, Max van Schagen, and James de Goede went on to place seventh with a time of 3:04.25. All told, each of the Blue Raiders' five relays garnered All-American status during the week.

Van Schagen and Daniel Wytwer also competed as individuals for Lindsey Wilson during the evening session of competition, participating in their respective "B" finals, with van Schagen posting a time of 46.43 in the 100-yard freestyle and Wytwer turning in a mark of 1:54.85 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Elsewhere for the Blue Raiders, Azahn Hicks swam a time of 1:55.48 in the 200 backstroke, de Goede and King finished with times of 47.06 and 47.34, respectively in the 100 freestyle, Rivas closed his individual stay with a mark of 2:07.81 in the 200 breaststroke, Chase Hickman turned in a 1:57.06 in the 200 butterfly, and Malte Ahrens fell in one spot shy of All-American status in the 1,650 freestyle with a final time of 16:16.35.
