Men's Basketball Bows Out Of Mid-South Tournament In Quarterfinals

At Bowling Green High School, the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team's postseason run came to an emotional end with a 79-58 loss in the quarterfinal round to Thomas More University.

The Saints utilized resilient pressure on defense in the first half to frustrate the Blue Raider offense, and despite a promising start to the second half, the locals could never fully recover from a 38-19 halftime deficit.

Johrdon Mumford and Veron Kalonji paced Lindsey Wilson with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Jamyus Jones contributed nine, and Payton Cundiff and Elijah Jordan closed with eight points.

Lindsey Wilson opened the scoring with a good jumper by Mumford, but the Saints came marching right back with a 14-0 run to quickly put the Blue Raiders in a double-digit hole that they maintained all the way through the first 20 minutes.

Then, in the second half, the locals managed to cut the Saints' lead down to 14 points with a 9-6 swing in the initial minutes. However, the Thomas More defense continued to come up with one clutch stop after another, and eventually pulled away to the final horn.

All told, the Blue Raiders shot 46.4 percent from the floor, marking the 23rd different time this season the team finished with a field goal percentage of 40 percent or better in a game.

Lindsey Wilson concludes the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 11-18 and their first postseason win in five years.
