Wilks, Lee lead Lady Tigers to victory over Lindsey Wilson
The #3 Lady Tiger Basketball team took on rival Lindsey Wilson Saturday afternoon. A potent offense combined with stiff defense brought the Lady Tigers the win, 75-56.
Campbellsville gained the lead early and managed to keep the Blue Raiders at a two-point deficit for most of the first quarter. Campbellsville struggled to collect baskets as they amassed just 33.3% from the field. Lindsey Wilson went ahead by one, but the Lady Tigers retaliated with consecutive threes delivered by Sarah Sutton and Elizabeth Bertram. Sutton returned to the arc moments later to tally another three for Campbellsville. The Blue Raiders interrupted the Lady Tigers' scoring run with a layup but continued to trail going into the second quarter.
Campbellsville pushed ahead to a double-digit lead as Bailey Pedigo knocked down her free throws from the stripe. The Lady Tigers were on an eight-point spree when Lindsey Wilson worked around Campbellsville's defenders for a basket. The Lady Tigers' field goal percentage improved to 54.2%. Campbellsville forced Lindsey Wilson into 11 turnovers, eight of which were steals from Campbellsville. The Lady Tigers exchanged these turnovers for 14 points allowing them to push the Blue Raiders to an 11-point discrepancy. Lindsey Wilson strung together a quick eight points but couldn't scratch back to an even score. Campbellsville ended the half with a 38-27 score.
At the half, Campbellsville displayed their integrity in the paint as they had collected18 points in the area compared to the Blue Raiders' eight. Campbellsville bench aided in their advantage as they pulled 12 points from the reserves, while the Blue Raiders bench served four additional points to their score. Lauren Lee led her team with eight points, while Kaitlyn Wilks followed suit with seven points and two rebounds.
Early into the third quarter, Campbellsville stepped up to the charity line. This pair of buckets from Pedigo had marked the Lady Tigers' twelfth shot from the line. The Blue Raiders had only been awarded four opportunities from the stripe. Lindsey Wilson had solidified 30 points in the paint as Courtney Pritchett collected herself a layup. Lindsey Wilson remained at a hefty deficit entering the final quarter.
The Lady Tigers busted open their lead to 21 points as Lee collected a basket and a foul. The Blue Raiders would disrupt Campbellsville's drive with layups but ultimately couldn't put a dent in their trail. The Lady Tigers' defense kept Lindsey Wilson at 35.4% in field goals. Campbellsville remained leading by a large margin and won the Battle of Highway 55 in a 75-56 score.
By the end of the competition, Campbellsville had amassed 46 points in the paint compared the Lindsey Wilson's 18 in the block. Wilks finished the contest leading the Lady Tigers. Wilks collected 17 points and six rebounds. Lee followed closely with 15 points and seven assists. Pedigo collected 12 points and five assists.
