Pioneers Fall To Oakland City and IU East in Dunn Hospitality Classic

CU Harrodsburg fell to Oakland City University 74-67 and Indiana University East 69-61 at the Dunn Hospitality Classic this weekend at Oakland City University. 

Kereion Douglas led the Pioneers in their first match up against the Mighty Oaks, scoring 20 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Chris Rawlins followed Douglas with 14 points. Ethan Jones added a career high 11 points off the bench for the Pioneers. Turnovers hurt CU Harrodsburg, as 18 turnovers led to 20 points for the Oaks. Oakland City outscored CU Harrodsburg 58-30 in the paint. 

The bench provided 29 points in the match up, as Jones (11 pts), Keelan Kennedy (7 pts), Colby Fugate (6 pts) and Elijah Frye (5 pts) all contributed for CU Harrodsburg.

The Pioneers would have a quick turnaround, taking on Indiana University East on Saturday. The Pioneers fell 69-61. 

Douglas again led the Pioneers, scoring 15 points. Keelan Kennedy returned to the starting lineup, adding 13 points for CU Harrodsburg. 

The Pioneers dominated in the paint, outscoring IU-East 22-8. Turnovers would slow the Pioneers on Saturday, as CU Harrodsburg would see IU-East score 19 points off 18 Pioneer turnovers. 

The bench would contribute to the Pioneers offense, as Tyrese Duncan (6 pts), Nakyir Joyce (5 pts) and Koko Lukonga (2 pts) scored for CU Harrodsburg. Chris Rawlins (9 pts), Warner Bryan (6 pts) and Ethan Jones (5 pts) rounded out the offense for the starting unit.

The Pioneers (3-9) return to the court on Tuesday for a match up with Asbury University in Wilmore. It will be the final match up for CU Harrodsburg before the Christmas break. 

CU Harrodsburg will return in 2023 against Berea College on January 3rd at the Campbellsville University Harrodsburg Athletic Facility on January 3rd.
