Christy Parks receives TC Cares Award
Christy Parks, counselor at Taylor County Intermediate School (TCIS), received the TC Cares Award at the monthly Taylor County school board meeting on Monday, Nov. 14
“Christy is amazing,” Donna Williams, principal at TCIS, said. “There are often times I’ll have something going on in my office and I’ll say ‘Christy, I need you!’ because counseling is not part of my skill set; there are times when I’ve had both kids and parents who needed to talk to her.”
Williams stated that she nominated Parks for her selfless dedication to the students of TCIS and spends her days helping them process and deal with issues like divorce, abuse, anxiety, and tragedy.
“She has a very calm demeanor, and she is always capable of making those tough calls, because sometimes she has to,” Williams said.
In addition to helping students individually, Parks also leads several student support groups: Strong Girls, Breakfast with the Boys and Healing Hearts, among others, and visits classrooms to teach lessons that can help students develop their emotional intelligence.
“She is such a vital part of the positive culture we have built at TCIS,” Williams said, “and I felt like she needed to be recognized with a TC Cares Award.”
