Tigers unable to complete the comeback against the Phoenix in 95-73 loss Saturday afternoon
The Tigers strong second half push wasn't enough to put them in position at the end of the game and falling on the road to Cumberland University 93-75.
Malachi De Sousa and Jace Wallace saw all 20 minutes of action in the first half of the game. De Sousa shot 3-4 from the field with nine points while Wallace picked up eight key rebounds and two points. Campbellsville shot 48.3% from the field in the first half while the Phoenix was hitting 59.4% and 40% from three-point range.
Cumberland University's Tyler Byrd got the team off to a hot start scoring 18 first half points. Bird was 7-8 from the field and 2-3 from the free throw line. Campbellsville went into the locker room facing a 52-39 deficit.
In the second half of action, Jarius Key led the charge for the Tigers seeing the floor 15 minutes and scoring 10 points while also collecting four rebounds total. Key also led Campbellsville in assists in the second half dishing out four total. De Sousa kept his consistency from the first half with another nine points to his day.
Campbellsville shut down Bird in the second half of play holding him to zero points. Tigers shot 47.4% from the field while hitting 64.3% from the free throw line to end the day.
The team will look to bounce back when they travel down the road for the Battle of Highway 55 on Tuesday November 22nd to face Lindsey Wilson College. That game is scheduled to tipoff at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Campbellsville will host the Lou Cunningham Classic on Friday November 25th and Saturday November 26th. Tigers will play Virginia University of Lynchburg on the 25th at 6 p.m. and University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis on the 26th at 4 p.m.
