City of Somerset natural gas director named president of Kentucky Gas Association
City of Somerset Natural Gas Director Bruce Neely was recently selected by the Kentucky Gas Association board of directors to serve as the organization’s president for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
The Kentucky Gas Association (KGA) acts as the premier advocate and information source for the natural gas industry. The association is governed by a 17-member board of directors and managed by an executive director and nine standing committees filled with industry specialists of member companies. KGA works to represent, promote and advance Kentucky’s natural gas industry while providing members educational and training opportunities that improve industry safety, customer service and natural gas efficiency.
“KGA has a long-standing history of serving as the collaborative voice of the natural gas industry in the Commonwealth, and I am honored to be selected to serve as its president,” Neely said. “I look forward to working with our board of directors to continue this mission while also serving our members by partnering in promotional efforts and providing resources for industry-specific training.”
Neely graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1991 with a bachelor of science in civil engineering. He began his career in 1988 with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) on its scholarship/work program. He spent his tenure working in construction and maintenance in the District 8 office in Somerset, with the exception of a two-year stint serving as a regional maintenance engineer in Frankfort where he reviewed operations of nearly 40 counties located in central and south-central Kentucky.
From 2012 to mid-2016, Neely served as the chief district engineer for the District 8 office. After his retirement from KYTC, Neely joined the City of Somerset as natural gas engineer, eventually becoming its director.
Neely and his wife Shannon have been married for 24 years. Shannon has been an educator for 29 years, serving the last 22 at Meece Middle School. They have two children — Devan, who is beginning her third year at the University of Kentucky majoring in neuroscience with plans to attend medical school; and Brad, a sophomore at Somerset High School who enjoys playing tennis and academics. The Neely family loves the outdoors; most of their time together is spent on Lake Cumberland.
