Cost of college went up for all students at Somerset Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 4.1 percent for 2018-19 at Somerset Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Kentucky residents paid $4,248 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $168 more than the $4,080 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 239 percent more than residents this year, or $14,400. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 4.3 percent from $13,800 in 2017-18.

100 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Kentucky residents.

Data shows 99 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 774 students received grants or scholarships totaling $4.5 million and 214 students took out student loans totaling more than $896,443.

Including all undergraduates (5,857), 5,137 students used grants or scholarships totaling $20.6 million, and 1,693 students took out $8.7 million in federal student loans.
